This Cookie Policy explains how YoungLearners ("we", "us", "our") uses cookies and similar technologies when you visit younglearners.co.uk. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy and Terms & Conditions.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They help the site remember information about your visit — for example, keeping you logged in or remembering your preferences. Cookies cannot carry viruses or install software on your device.
We also use localStorage, a similar browser technology that stores data locally on your device rather than sending it to a server with every request. We treat localStorage with the same care as cookies.
2. What cookies do we use?
We use three categories of cookies:
Essential — these are necessary for the platform to function. They keep you logged in, maintain your session, and remember your cookie preference. You cannot opt out of essential cookies.
Functional — these remember your choices and personalise your experience, such as your avatar selection or streak data stored locally. No personal data leaves your device.
Analytics — with your permission, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the platform is used (which subjects are most popular, where users drop off, etc.). This helps us improve YoungLearners. Analytics cookies are only set if you click Accept all.
3. Full cookie list
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |

| _gid | Analytics | Google Analytics — distinguishes users across sessions | 24 hours |
_ga, _gid) are only set if you click "Accept all" on the cookie banner. If you choose "Essential only", no analytics data is collected.
4. Third-party cookies
If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics 4 will set cookies on our behalf. Google may process data on servers outside the UK. We have configured Google Analytics with IP anonymisation enabled, meaning your full IP address is never stored. For more information, see Google's Privacy Policy.
We do not use advertising cookies, remarketing pixels, or social media tracking cookies of any kind.
5. Children and cookies
YoungLearners is designed for children aged 9–12. We are mindful of our obligations under the UK Children's Code (Age Appropriate Design Code). We do not use cookies to track children's behaviour for advertising purposes, and we do not share any data about children with third parties for marketing.
Where a child's parent or guardian has created an account, the cookie consent decision is made by the account holder at signup.
6. How to manage your preferences
You can change your cookie preferences at any time by clicking the button below:
You can also control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to refuse or delete cookies. Note that refusing essential cookies will affect your ability to use the platform (you will not be able to stay logged in).
